How has ASDA helped you build your leadership skills?
ASDA has helped enhance my leadership skills, such as communication, teamwork, time management, and decision-making. Not only that, but being a chapter leader has also offered practical experience in organizational management, event planning, budgeting, and other skills that are transferable to any professional setting.

What do you think is the most vital quality in a leader?
I think the most vital quality in a leader is integrity. To me, integrity means having strong moral conviction and being honest and truthful to both yourself and others through not only your words but through your actions as well. A person with integrity is someone that shows up on time to important duties, can be counted on to do what they say they’re going to do, and is the “what you see is what you get” type of person.

Why should members get involved with ASDA leadership positions?
Exposure to leadership roles in ASDA can be valuable for future career opportunities within the dental field, and the vast networking opportunities through the positions can lead to mentorship, collaboration, and exposure to various aspects of dentistry.

What future leadership roles in organized dentistry interest you and why?
I currently am on the Iowa Dental Association’s New Dentist Committee, and hope to continue working on the committee following graduation. I also would be interested in eventually becoming a district trustee for whichever district in Iowa I end up practicing in.
