The House of Delegates is the supreme legislative body of the Association and is responsible for electing officers and determining policies, initiatives and directives.
Who makes up the House of Delegates?
- Two delegates from each ASDA chapter (are voting members that) sit on the House floor
- The Board of Trustees
- The Speaker of the House
- The Secretary of the House (the executive director)
- Council chairs
When does the House meet?
The House meets once a year at Annual Session to discuss and debate resolutions and determine initiatives. The business of the House, as scheduled by the speaker, must be comprehensible, concise and efficient. To keep things running smoothly, parliamentary procedure and the Standing Rules of the House of Delegates are used.
What is the election process?
On the first day the House meets, executive committee candidates address the House and present their platforms. Candidates have the opportunity to visit joint district caucuses. Voting takes place on the last day of House meetings to elect president, two vice presidents and speaker of the house.
What are resolutions?
A resolution is a formal request or action that is presented to the House of Delegates for consideration. Delegates present discussion for or against a specific resolution, then the House votes to determine whether or not the resolution should be adopted.
A resolution is the appropriate course of action if you need to:
- Identify a problem or need for action
- Update or amend existing policy
