You have the tools to be a successful doctor, but you may still have some uncertainties about what to expect from post-graduate life. Join our panel of new dentists who will share details about their last few months of dental school and first year in practice.
Be sure to bring your questions about being a new dentist. This session is an opportunity to get those questions answered from individuals who were recently in your position.

Joseph Manzella, DDS MPH; Stony Brook ’21; 2020-21 Speaker of the House
Dr. Manzella graduated from Stony Brook School of Dental Medicine in May 2021, there having served as class president, ASDA Chapter President, District 2 Programming Chair, and National Speaker of The House from 2020-21. Dr. Manzella also earned his Masters in Public Health while attending dental school and is now finishing his 1-year GPR at Rhode Island Hospital at Brown Medical. He is passionate about treating patients with special needs from all walks of life.
Sydney Shapiro, DDS MPH; Columbia ’21; 2020-21 President
Sydney is a pediatric dentistry resident at New York Presbyterian/Columbia University. She graduated from Columbia University College of Dental Medicine in 2021, where she completed her dental degree and Master of Public Health. Sydney served as the national president of the American Student Dental Association from 2020-21. She also served on various councils throughout her time in ASDA, including ASDA’s Council on Professional Issues and as the ASDA liaison to the ADA Council on Dental Education and Licensure.
Anthoula Vlachos, DDS; Pacific ’21; 2020-21 District 11 Trustee
Anthoula Vlachos graduated from Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry in June 2021. She has been active with ASDA since 2015 as a pre dental student. During dental school, Anthoula was the Pacific ASDA Chapter President 2019-2020, District 11 ASDA Secretary 2019-2020, and National District 11 Trustee 2020-2021. In 2019 she was the winner of the National Rising Leader Award. Dr. Anthoula Vlachos currently practices in a private office in her hometown of Ukiah, CA.
