How has ASDA helped you build your leadership skills?
ASDA has helped me build my leadership skills in numerous ways. As the oldest child of five girls, I think I was born a natural leader. It wasn’t until I joined ASDA that I had the opportunity to enhance my leadership skills. I have learned how to adequately manage a team, plan large events, make crucial decisions and public speak. I believe that with the skills I have gained through ASDA, I will be able to lead my future dental team through anything.

What do you think is the most vital quality in a leader?
In my opinion, the most vital quality in a leader is the ability to put others needs before their own. There have been many instances during my presidency where I have had put my teams needs before mine. I don’t say that selfishly, I say that because I am okay doing that. As a leader, I strive to make sure the people around me are okay. Without my support system, I am nothing. I think a good leader is someone who recognizes that they are only as strong as the people they surround themselves by.

Why should members get involved with ASDA leadership positions?
Members should get involved with ASDA leadership positions for many reasons. ASDA is a great way to make life long connections. I have made so many friends from dental schools all over the country. I also have had the pleasure of meeting practicing dentists from all over the country as well. Dentists are the leader of the practice. ASDA is a great way to hone in on your skills before you get into the real world when everything matters a little more. Now is the time to make mistakes and become the best version of yourself before you have Dr. in front of your name.

What future leadership roles in organized denstiry interest you and why?
I definitely plan to stay involved with organized dentistry as a practicing dentist. I would like to be an active member on the state level of whichever state I choose to practice in. I am from Ohio and more than likely plan to return there to practice. I can see myself being active within the ODA. I think it is important to be active within the state you practice so that you are up to date with the most recently changes in dentistry.
