What is wellness and why does it matter?
Wellness means making thoughtful, daily choices towards a healthy and fulfilling life. While in dental school, you may notice changes in your personal well-being and health due to a decrease in exercise, changed eating habits, stress or depression.
ASDA’s Wellness Initiative encourages you to make well-being a priority with a focus on these five dimensions of your life:

Accessing Wellness Resources
Most universities and colleges have health centers that offer counseling services to enrolled students. You can take advantage of counseling services and/or medical services for stress and other areas of mental wellness. It’s in your best interest – and that of your patients – if you are the healthiest version of yourself. Find information on the health center at your dental school.
Access the ADA’s health and wellness programs as part of your ADA student membership. Each state association has a health and wellness director who can help you with anything from stress, mental well-being and addiction. You can contact your state association directly or call ADA Manager of Dentist Health and Wellness Alison Bramhall at 312-440-2622.

60 Seconds to Wellness
Sometimes, wellness requires large lifestyle changes that can take time to turn into habits. But there are manageable, daily changes you can make today that will contribute to your overall well-being. That’s the goal behind ASDA’s new video feature, 60 Seconds to Wellness. Take less than a minute out of your day to discover an idea that could make a difference in your physical or emotional wellness, from fellow dental students and ASDA alumni.

Each month, ASDA issues a Wellness Challenge that asks you to change your behavior in a way that will positively affect your wellness. Each challenge varies in length and activity, but the goal is the same: to get you paying more attention to your well-being and developing good wellness habits.
