Description

Barriers to care and student debt are current legislative priorities for ASDA that are being discussed in Congress. With the upcoming midterm elections in November, it is important to be up to date on specific bills and the congressional members who support them. This session will pave the way for dental students to learn more about federal legislation, midterm elections, ASDA Advocacy resources, and Advocacy Month.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this session, participants will be able to:

  1. Understand new legislation that relates to the field of dentistry and how it affects dental students and patients.
  2. Understand ASDA’s position on the issues and be able to formulate your own opinion on the legislation.
  3. Learn about ASDA resources to get involved, specifically looking forward to Advocacy Month activities.
Panelist

Abely-Therese Therese Abely

Therese Abely is from San Jose, California and attends Tufts University in Boston, Massachusetts. As a current 3rd year, she is the Legislative Liaison for her school's ASDA Chapter, as well as the Legislative Coordinator for Districts 1-3 on the National Council of Advocacy. Therese is so grateful for the opportunity to serve in this position and use her voice to advocate on behalf of all dental students and patients.


Mobeck-BradleyBradley Mobeck,

Brad Mobeck is from Los Angeles, California, and is currently a 3rd year dental student at University of California, Los Angeles. He is currently the UCLA ASDA Chapter President and also serves as Districts 10 & 11 Legislative Coordinator on the Council on Advocacy. Brad loves advocacy because it is an exciting avenue of dentistry that impacts the lives of dentists and well-being of patients.
