February 2026 – Heart for Service
During the month of love, this issue of Contour shoots an arrow through the heart of dentistry with a focus on service. Our cover story by Ulises Martinez-Ceballos (UNC Adams ‘27) showcases dental students pursuing global trips to create a lasting impact. “There are millions of people across the world in need of dental care who cannot access it due to barriers like finances, transportation, and language,” writes Editor in Chief Amrit Saini (North Carolina ‘26).
Tania Barazande-Pour’s (Harvard ’28) highlights the importance of communication and empathy in the dental clinic when language is a barrier, while Raven King (VCU ’27) dives into what it’s like treating animals, from Bengal tigers to chimpanzees. Kylee Fulton (Colorado ’28) shines a spotlight on prison dentistry, a hidden crisis in dental health.
We’re also bringing awareness to National Children’s Dental Health Month — from a new, non-invasive technology in pediatrics to the history of the tooth fairy.
